ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE: The Attorney General,
an independently elected official, provides legal services to more
than 230 state agencies, boards and commissions, and colleges and
universities, as well as the Legislature and the Governor. Our
mission is to deliver to officials, agencies and citizens of
Washington state the highest quality professional legal services. We
also serve the public through our Consumer Protection and Antitrust
Divisions and our Public Counsel Section. The Attorney General’s
Office (AGO) employs over 500 attorneys and 700 professional staff
employees. The
Position: The University of Washington (UW) Division will have
an opening for Division Chief effective August 9, 2010. This position
is responsible for managing the UW Division, which consists of sixteen
(16) attorneys and ten (10) professional staff, and overseeing the
division’s multi-faceted and challenging legal work. The UW Division
Chief also supervises the work of special assistant attorneys general
who are appointed to represent the UW in selected specialty areas,
such as medical malpractice and intellectual property matters, or in
regard to specific litigation. The UW Division represents and advises
the University of Washington and its campuses in Seattle, Tacoma and
Bothell, as well as the affiliated medical centers. The division
provides a wide range of legal services, including advice and
representation related to student affairs, academic programs, health
care, labor relations, employment law, land use, real estate, tax,
business law, intercollegiate athletics, research compliance and
technology transfer, public finance and bonding, intellectual
property, gifts and trusts, and other higher education issues. The
division’s office is located in the University of Washington Tower in
Seattle, Washington. The Division Chief serves as the chief legal
counsel to the University of Washington and works closely and
regularly with high-level UW administrators. The Division Chief also
interacts and coordinates with AGO colleagues in the Washington State
University Division and Education Division. Desired
Qualifications: The successful candidate must be a member in
good standing with the Washington State Bar Association or who can
quickly obtain that standing. The successful candidate should have
strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as
the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, provide
independent, sound legal advice on a variety of complex issues, craft
practical solutions, maintain perspective and foster teamwork.
Compensation:
Salary is dependent upon experience. A standard state benefits
package is offered which includes a choice of medical/dental insurance
plans, retirement, life and basic long-term disability insurance. This
position is exempt from civil service.

office of Adams County Prosecuting Attorney is seeking

SENTENCING GUIDELINES COMMISSION:
Is accepting applications for
an Executive Director.
DUTIES: The Executive Director reports to
the Commission Chair and its members and coordinates the activities of
the Commission, including: Acting
as a spokesperson and representing the Commission and the SOPB before
the public, the Legislature, and other agencies; Managing the daily
operations of the agency, holding responsibility for the appointment
and supervision of the staff that provide technical and administrative
support to the Commission and the SOPB; Maintaining statewide
information systems on adult and juvenile felony sentencing;
Coordinating and conducting policy research, including assessing and
analyzing proposed policies; Assisting in the preparation of
legislative proposals and testifying for the Commission at legislative
hearings; Overseeing the preparation and publication of
statutorily-mandated reports on racial disproportionality in adult and
juvenile sentencing, prison capacity, recidivism, etc.
Qualifications:
This
position requires a confident, pragmatic leader who displays
sensitivity, diplomacy, and a high level of integrity. The ideal
candidate for this position is an excellent communicator and
experienced public speaker, skilled in facilitation, coordination and
negotiation. These skills are required in order to respond effectively
to the many complex and diverse issues, interests, and agendas facing
the Commission. An ideal candidate for this position will also have: A
bachelor’s degree or higher in law, public administration, political
science, or other related field; Proven leadership abilities
demonstrated by at least five (5) years of managerial experience; A
record of professional accomplishment, with a thorough understanding
of criminal law and sentencing practices; A Familiarity with policy
development and legislative processes; An understanding of the design
and organization of policy research and development.
Salary:
$93,000 to $103,200, DOQ.
